London Apartments: Spotlight on Spitalfields Market E1

To really understand the heart of London you need to know the vibrant East End culture that has played an integral part in the formation of dynamic London.  Like its transatlantic counterpart New York, London has always attracted immigrants from throughout the world.  People from all over the world, ranging from Ireland, China, Russian Jews has been flocking to London and especially the East End of the City for hundreds of years.

When you walk around the East End, the sense of following in the steps of hundreds of immigrants searching for a better life is quite a humbling experience.  Every nook and cranny of the East End, has remnants of its past inhabitants.

Spitalfields Market is based in the heart of the City just 5 minutes walk from Liverpool Street and has just been refurbished from a dilapidated relic to a stunning and vibrant market.  The old Spitalfields market opened around 1638 and specialised in offering meat, vegetables and poultry.

Now there are chocolate specialist shops like Montezuma, Valerie Patisserie offering the best cream cakes ever!  But my favourite is the café offering the best comfort food in London: bangers and mash, steak pie, haggis.  There is a pick 'n' mix bangers and mash menu where you can choose a type of sausage, mash and gravy.  My favourite is Cumberland sausage, potato & roast parsnip mash and forest mushroom gravy.  Seriously worth visiting!

There is also a really eclectic mix of funky boutique clothes shops, old traditional grocery shops selling English pies & cheeses, and high street shops like Tesco.  What is unmissable is the vibrant, dynamic and quirky 'je ne sais quoi' of the East End.  This is not something easy to replicate.  Visit www.visitspitalfields.com

Getting here is really easy, no matter where you are staying in London, as it is only 5 minutes walk from Liverpool Street Station.  This station is on the central (red) line and easily accessible via British Railway throughout the UK.  There are also many buses coming through, so travelling is very easy.

So the next time you are thinking of visiting London for business or pleasure, why not try Spitalfields as a destination.
